Lessons:
The following are lessons which have been found to help students comprehend canopy navigation skills. You are welcome to design new lessons and share with the skydiVR instructor community.
DZ selected with agreement from student, intro on how to use the software, steer the parachute, how to “look around”. First jump is in nil winds, most common landing pattern, holding area, downwind, base, final. Aircraft & airport operation fundamentals. Lesson plan is here.
Most common landing pattern, ideal to medium winds with good spot
Second most common landing direction, not a good spot, mild winds, holding, crabbing, running, other canopies, intro to flying in brakes and braked turns, identifying areas of turbulence (other canopies and ground obstacles)
Most common landing direction, medium winds different from forecasted winds, other canopies, consolidation of holding, crabbing, running, braked turns skills
Bad spot, most common landing direction, assess canopy performance to landing area and possible alternate landing points, get back entering the traffic pattern low, other canopies, how to recognize and avoid turbulent landings due to wind
Landing off procedure (nil winds), points to assess for when selecting where to land off
Landing off consolidation (variable winds), with other canopies
Land off with crosswind approach and other canopies
Spotting and jump-run etiquette
